Glass Canopy and Winter Garden Systems: Design and Specification
A glass canopy is a fixed transparent roof carried on extruded aluminium beams — from a small entrance cover to a full terrace roof or winter garden. Unlike fabric awnings, a glass canopy is a permanent, silent and snow-bearing structure that keeps daylight flowing into the rooms behind it.
Main system types
Entrance and walkway canopy
A compact glass canopy over doors, shopfronts and walkways protects visitors from rain and falling debris. Laminated glass is mandatory here, since the panes hang over people.
Terrace glass roof and winter garden
Larger spans turn a terrace into a usable room: aluminium rafters carry laminated glass at a gentle slope, with an integrated gutter at the eave. Combined with guillotine glass side walls, the result is a winter garden that stays bright all year.
Sliding glass roof
Where ventilation matters, one or more glass panels slide over the fixed ones by motor, opening 30-50 percent of the roof area — a middle ground between a fixed glass canopy and a bioclimatic pergola.
